Information

The Vienna Academy of Visionary Art
closed in 2020 due to the Global Pandemic.

As a part of the Archival Site,
here are the programmes we had on offer.

Diploma Programme

The Vienna Academy is an international teaching institution (with English as the primary language of instruction) that accepts up to twenty students per year in its One to Three Year Diploma programmes. For shorter stays, we offer a Single Trimester (10 weeks), a Half-Trimester (5 weeks) and our Summer Seminar in Italy (3 weeks) for a variety of opportunities to learn the painter’s craft (see below).

Diploma-track students develop two paintings per trimester under the guidance of the two trimester teachers – receiving a direct transmission of the artists’ techniques and spiritual approaches to painting. Thus, the student cycles through six different faculty members each year, keeping the approach to painting lively, fresh and original. Academy Director Laurence Caruana provides continuity through his on-going lectures.

Classes are held from 10 AM – 6 PM, Monday to Friday, with one of the two teachers present at all times. Figure Drawing from the live nude is held every Wednesday from 2 – 6 pm. Teachers also put emphasis on the Promotion & Exhibition of the artist’s work, and an exhibition is held at the end of each half-trimester.

As credit, an internal diploma is awarded at the end of each trimester. The completion of three trimesters leads to our One-Year Diploma; the completion of six trimesters leads to our Two-Year Diploma. Students need not complete their three or six trimesters in one stay, but may come & go to accumulate their credits.

Students on track to our Three-Year Diploma dedicate an additional time to their Masterpiece – a large-scale painting that is supervised by an established Visionary artist. Upon completion, they are recognized by our academy as a ‘Master’ artist and awarded our Three-Year Diploma.

  • The tuition for the academic year is €9,900. Payment may be made in a single deposit or in three trimestrial installments.

The Trimester Programme

For those students who cannot attend the full year, we also offer studies for a Full Trimester (10 weeks) or Half-Trimester (5 weeks).

For the Full Trimester, the student enrolls for the Fall, Winter or Spring Trimester (10 weeks) and develops two successive paintings during that trimester  under the guidance of the two successive trimester teachers – at a price that is €700 less than two Half-Trimesters (€3,300 instead of €4,000)

For the Half-Trimester, the student enrolls for the First or Second Half of the Fall, Winter or Spring (5 weeks) and develops one painting during that half-trimester  under the guidance of one teacher – receiving a direct transmission of the artists’ techniques and spiritual approaches to painting.

Classes are held from 10 AM – 6 PM, Monday to Friday, with the teacher present at all times. Figure Drawing from the live nude is held every Wednesday from 2 – 6 pm. Teachers put emphasis on the Promotion & Exhibition of the artist’s work, and an exhibition is held at the end of each trimester.

Trimester students receive an internal diploma as credit that goes towards the completion of the One-Year Diploma (3 trimesters of study) and the Two-Year Diploma (6 trimesters of study). Students need not complete their three or six trimesters in one stay, but may come & go to accumulate their credits.

  • The tuition for a full trimester (10 weeks) is €3,300
  • The tuition for a half trimester (5 weeks) is €2000

The Seminars in Italy

The Academy offers two seminars a year in Italy, The Easter Seminar at Torri Superiore, and the Summer Seminar called The Visions in the Mischtechnik Seminar. In the hilltop eco-village of Torri Superiore, students and teachers gather for 10 days (Easter Seminar) or three weeks (Summer Seminar) of intensive painting. Participants of all ages, from all parts of the world, soon form a cohesive group through shared activities like chanting, yoga and hikes to the fabulous Swimming Grotto nearby.

You can read more about the summer seminar here:
