      Freehand Sacred Geometry & Full Moon Inner Journey with Laurence Caruana & Florence Ménard – 126 min.

      Under the flowering full moon, Vienna Academy of Visionary Art directors Laurence Caruana and Florence Ménard will initiate a series of online workshops created to support the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art.

      To prepare ourselves for this workshop, Laurence and Florence will create a sacred space through a prayer to the seven directions, followed by the chanting of sacred vowels corresponding to the seven heavens.

      Free-hand Sacred Geometry Initiation

      Across the ages, artisans were initiated into knowledge of sacred geometry by drawing archetypal shapes. In this one-hour workshop, Laurence Caruana will lead a meditative drawing ritual. With neither ruler nor compass, you will make free-hand geometric designs that allow you to visualize, experience and understand the harmonious division of space – from the One to the All.

      Full Moon Inner Journey

      Following the tradition of the Moondance which she has been part of the last 2 years, Florence will offer a Full Moon Ceremony to create a safe space for us to go inside ourselves on a guided inner journey. During this visualization, accompanied by shamanic instruments, we will focus on bringing the light into ourselves, imagining what kind of post-Covid world we want to live in, and see how we can make this a reality.

      Self Portrait Drawing Workshop with Amanda Sage – 141 min.

      The journey of the self portrait is an initiation. An exploration of the self.

      Each time we face our reflection we see deeper into the truth of the matter. The truth of our mortality and the mystery that is this life. What do we want? Who are we when look into the mirror?

      In this workshop we will dive into a guided journey step by step into drawing our own portrait from a mirror. We will learn composition and tricks in finding proportions. We will study value, shading and basic principles in eye/hand coordination. After we discover the basic form, we will explore the story of the avatars that we are. What do you see?

      Demo will be done in black & white charcoal on burnt sienna acrylic-toned watercolor paper, taped to a board on an easel with a hand mirror tied to the easel right above the drawing so the face does not have to move while drawing, only the eyes will move from mirror to drawing. It must be set up for the observation process to be made as easy as possible.

      Recommended Materials:

      – Toned paper (can be watercolor paper or mixed media paper that is toned with any color or mix of acrylics)

      Paint a Dragon with Stefan Lucas Allen and special guest Florence Ménard – 178 min.

      In this workshop we will each create a magnificent dragon!

      We will begin with a presentation about various dragons from the artwork and artifacts of different cultures and time periods including the dragon themed paintings from Stefan’s Portfolio. Secondly, Florence Ménard, co-director of the Academy, will guide an inner journey so we can dive into the depth of our spirit and discover a unique dragon of our own.

      After our deep dive, Stefan will give an in depth demonstration on how to paint a dragon step by step. This will include techniques that can be practiced, developed and mastered. We’ll end with a Q&A/Discussion on what we have discovered and are curious about.

      Materials required / advised for workshop:
      – acrylic paint and a canvas/ panel with dark ground
      – if no paint is available, a simple pen/pencil and paper will also suffice

      Perspective with Ihti Anderson – 210 min.

      Art is free, it has no limits. Artists are free to experiment, discover and even break the rules. But In my opinion, if an artist is going to break some rules, they should know the rules that they are going to break.

      Practical knowledge such as perspective, composition, and working with different mediums are important for every artist. The foundational knowledge and experience of the artist can usually be felt in their artwork.

      In this workshop you will:
      – Learn what kind of perspective grids exist.
      – How you can apply objects into these grids.
      – Why and where we should choose particular perspective models.
      – How to combine multiple perspective models.
      – We will also discover and explore great examples of masterpieces where power and knowledge of perspective was used wisely.

      Morph Madness – Morphing the Human Figure with Liba WS – 99 min.

      Throughout history artists have morphed the imagination, the dream world, the world of visions with our tangible world.

      This workshop will concentrate on morphing a human with anything… an animal, insect, bird, tree, flower, teapot, mountain. Through a series of academic drawing exercises, this workshop will cover the process of breaking down complex forms into simpler forms so a morph between two subjects is possible. The finished drawing can be used as the template for a painting the artist wants to complete after the course.

      Bring your pencils and paper to start exploring the world of magic realism.

      Recommended Materials:

      Alchemy of Acrylics with Peter Gric – 163 min.

      I have loved acrylics from the very first day I tried them. Back then I was a young student at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. I was supposed to learn the magical “Mischtechnik” of the old masters, and I did, but, after my liaison with acrylics the Mischtechnik was quickly abandoned.

      What’s so great about acrylics? It’s fast, it’s flexible, it’s forgiving; it can be painted in layers almost instantly, it can be sprayed, poured, scratched; it dries fast or slow, it can create crisp, suggestive textures or it can smoothly be airbrushed. All this is possible if you know what you are doing, and that’s what I want to show you.

      Materials for workshop:
      – Acrylic colors: (preferably Lascaux, Old Holland or Amsterdam), Gesso (preferably Lacscaux), acrlyic medium (preferably Lascaux Medium Glossy and Satin), if possible Airbrush (I love the Aztec A470), for the airbrush I like to use the acrylic inks from Schmincke (Aerocolor)
      – Boards: raw Hardboards or MDF boards with a smooth surface. Good format for the start is 40 x 50 cm or something like that.
      – Brushes: one wide soft brush (8 cm or so), some flat or cat tongue brushes of various sizes (like 0.5 cm / 1 cm / 2 cm width), some small nylon brushes (size 3, 2, 0)
      – Other tools: 1 or 2 transparencies like overhead film (without any coating) for the creation of decalcomania textures. The size should be at least A3 or bigger. Rag, razors, sandpaper (100-200 grade)

      Visions of the Shaman – Healer with Roel Crabbe – 118 min.

      Visions that bring forward healing and transformation have always been the domain of the shaman. In this 3 hour workshop we will reconnect to the realms of healing visions for the world. Roel will guide you in a two-part shamanic inner journey to meet with both the Descendants and Ancestors, to help bring forward your vision of healing for the world. After receiving the vision, we will capture it together in a drawing or text, to anchor it.

      Apart from this guided journey, Roel will teach you the framework for making this connection with both the descendants and ancestors as part of your life and part of your art. A deep dive into our archaic roots and connection with the Spirit world.

      Roel has been a shamanic practitioner for over 25 years and is personally trained and authorized to teach by Sandra Ingerman. He has trained thousands in shamanic healing, journeying, and rituals for transformation. This workshop is his contribution to the fundraiser-efforts for the Academy of Visionary Art, of which he is a student.

      Flow Lines – Amanda Sage – 197 min.

      World renowned visionary artist Amanda Sage IS BACK!
      This time she will demonstrating and leading exercises on how she achieves her legendary flow lines!
       
      Rippling waves of transparent vibration, describe energetic frequency emanating around all matter.
      Beyond visual perception they are like inter-connective tissue weaving patterns of something mostly felt until seen in a work of art.

      In this workshop I will share a presentation revealing my process, then together with the class create a new painting exploring these concepts.
       
      Suggested Materials:
      • 16×20” canvas or watercolor paper (size is based on your preference)
      • Vine Charcoal (or pencil if you can’t find charcoal)

      Landscapes with Depth – Stefan Lucas Allen with Florence Ménard – 141 min.

      What makes a landscape take your breath away?
      What is it that humbles us when we stand before jagged mountains, turquoise lakes and billowing monolithic clouds?
       
      And most importantly… HOW do we paint it?
      We will start with an inspiration presentation that dives into many landscapes of various master artists, and then go into a guided inner journey offered by academy director, Florence Ménard, aimed at discovering a thread, a feeling, a matrix of energy to support our creation. Then Stefan will demonstrate an improvised landscape that you may follow along with as closely or loosely as you wish.

      Home is Where the HeArt is – Jonathan Solter – 152 min.

      The interdimensional visionary artist, Jonathan Solter, will lead students through his process in creating immersive landscapes and the architecture that lives in them.
      In this workshop, Jonathan will offer a lecture before his demonstrations.
      Afterward Jonathan will start a new painting on canvas using acrylics. As he goes through the first steps in his creation, you are welcome to follow along on your own canvas while implementing his direction and methods.
      Jonathan will cover such topics as initial brainstorming and inspiration, color theory, perspective, immersive landscapes and the temples that live in them.
      There will be a brief period of time at the end of the workshop for live Q&A and sharing.

      Through the Eyes of Spirit – Li Lian Kolster – 188 min.

      In this workshop we will paint an eye of an animal of your choice.
      We shall start with an introduction to working with the spirit animal medicine and painting as a tool to deepen our connection. Li Lian shall then guide you on an inner journeying meditation which will also incorporate the traditional shamanic chanting of icaros. Through this you will have the opportunity to dive inwards to see what features and elements you wish to incorporate into your eye creation. You are encouraged to explore the messages and medicine your animal may have for you.
      Eyes can speak volumes and looking into them can be very revealing. They have been said to be windows to the soul. What new perspectives can be seen through the eyes of your animal? What new visions can you bring forth?
      Next Li Lian will give a demonstration of how to render an eye with acrylic paint. Using your chosen reference photo as a guide for form, we will build volume through painting with layers and you will be guided in areas of observation and practical techniques to bring your eye to life.
       
      Materials required:
      • A photo of your chosen animal eye
        – This can be an animal which is a known guide to you, one which you have been drawn to or one which you have been noticing recently. As this is a short workshop something simpler would work better
      • Canvas, panel or acrylic paper
        – The demo will be done on a small scale but you are welcome to work on a size you are comfortable with
      • Acrylic paints
        – I would recommend white, black and no more than 4-5 colours which you feel and see in your animal.
        – Many animals have earth tones and I frequently use burnt/raw umber and sienna as well as naples yellow. I suggest having at least one earth tone to mute and harmonize any other colors you wish to work with. You are welcome to work with a more limited colour palette or even paint in monochrome.
        Pencils work fine for those with no paint.
      • Brushes
        – A range of filberts and rounds appropriate for the size of your painting. I would suggest one small sized filbert and round brush for details
      • A Palette or something to mix on
        – Those with sta wet palettes and palette knives are welcome to use them.

      Watcher at the Gate – Laurence Caruana & Florence Ménard – 175 min.
      Journey into your Inner Sanctuary and Paint your Watcher at the Gate

      In this final workshop of the fundraiser series, Florence Ménard will lead you on a vision journey to the source of your creative power. But, ever and always, a watcher stands at the gate. In celebration of Hallowe’en, Samhain and the full moon, we will visualize this guardian at the threshold, whose angelic-demonic face guards and protects the source of your creative power.
      After a presentation on the apotropaic ‘face of glory’ (kirtimukha, gorgon, taotie…), Laurence Caruana will guide you through the construction of a three-toned sculptural drawing, learning how to visualize the face from its third eye, how to curve lines of the crown and hair around a hidden armature, and how to translate its sculptural shapes into graduated shades of light and darkness.
      For fun at the end, everyone will be invited to share their experience of the journey and the resulting work of art, then leave the space voluntarily while everyone is listening or dancing to music.
      *The workshop runs for three hours, with an extra fourth hour (optional) for sharing and dancing.

      For the three-toned sculptural drawing, we will use the grey tone of the paper for one tone, and add shadows in black crayon pencil for the darks, and highlights in white plaka casein or acrylics for the lights. Sketching will be done in graphite pencil.
      • Support: 1 sheet of grey-toned paper, in size large enough to draw a full-size face with crown and hair – roughly 22×30 inches or 56×76 cm.
        – The paper should be thick enough to absorb water (around 140 lb / 300 gsm). This may be store-bought grey paper, or white paper toned grey using grey plaka casein (which is what I do) or with acrylics
      • Sketching: your preferred graphite pencil (f or hb is fine)
      • Shadows: your preferred black crayon pencil (I use Faber-Castell Polychromos Schwarz-black 9201-199***)
      • Lights: white plaka casein or white acrylic paint
      • A glass of water
      • A variety of fine, soft-hair brushes in different sizes for detail work
      • A ruler
      • A compass
      • Erasers
      • A pad of paper for sketching
